Senior Design Project, Spring 2019

Senior Design
During this year’s ECE Senior Design Showcase held in conjunction with Industrial Advisory Board meeting on April 26, 2019, two senior design teams sponsored and advised by Dr. Annamalai secured both the first place and the second place at the competition. The winning teams were judged and selected by the members of the Industrial Advisory Board based on the team’s creativity in developing novel solutions that could have significant socio-economic impacts. The team consisting of Paul Murphy, Johnny Turner, Jordan King, Malik Norris and Rotimi Inyang won the best senior design project award for developing a low-cost, cloud-server based GPS/wi-fi wireless tracking solution (using commercial off-the-shelf hardware, geo-fencing and alert mechanisms) for people with special needs (e.g., Alzheimer and dimentia patients). The second prize was given to the student team (that includes Zakreya Mahamud, Carlos Fernandez, Refayet Iftihaj, Arian Johnson and Shaheen Rashid) for developing a photonic encryption chamber to demonstrate the feasibility of a physical layer security approach. A few of these students will continue to work in the SECURE center towards obtaining their M.S.E.E degree.
